Job Summary:
We are seeking a Buyer who will play a vital role in furthering our mission to drive innovation within the biotech, pharmaceutical, and specialty chemical industries. As part of our contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), you will oversee procurement functions to ensure a steady, reliable flow of essential chemicals and materials supporting our research, scale-up, and specialty manufacturing initiatives. In this position, you will collaborate with both vendors and internal teams, negotiating pricing and delivery terms while proactively addressing supply chain concerns. Your expertise will sustain the seamless operation of our projects—empowering our staff to tackle challenging chemistry problems and deliver impactful solutions that improve lives across the globe.
The ideal Buyer is a detail-oriented and proactive professional with a strong background in procurement, preferably within the biotech, pharmaceutical, or specialty chemical industries. They thrive in dynamic environments, demonstrating exceptional negotiation skills, a keen understanding of supply chain continuity, and the ability to build and maintain productive relationships with both suppliers and internal stakeholders. Proficiency in SAP B1 or similar ERP systems is essential, as is the capacity to handle the complete purchase order process with accuracy and efficiency. Key Responsibilities:
- Negotiate pricing, delivery, and order terms with suppliers.
- Assist in sourcing chemicals and materials to ensure continuity of supply chains.
- Proactively work with internal requestors to understand their order requests.
- Qualify vendor, negotiate pricing in preparation for initiation of purchase orders for goods and services to maximize value, supply, and cost.
- Monitor open purchase orders, identify and address possible delivery issues in order to expedite receipt
- Work with receiving staff to ensure all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products.
- Ensure timely direct placement of orders with vendors.
- Accurately enter, code and update purchase orders in SAP B1, identifying expenses, fixed asset and inventory items.
- Proactively follow up on placed orders.
- Timely closure of PO’s once all issues are resolved.
- Investigate and initiate the payment process of invoices from external legal consultants and work with the internal legal group to ensure services have been adequately provided.
- Develop and execute procurement strategies that align with company objectives.
- Prepare reports and updates on procurement activities, providing insight into purchasing progress and supplier performance.
- Assist the Procurement Manager in Ewing, NJ with special projects, process improvement initiatives and ad-hoc requests as needed.
- Ability to travel between Wilmington and New Castle, DE as needed for meetings or work assignments; occasional travel to Ewing, NJ may be required for training sessions or team collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 5-7 years of applicable experience or 7-10 years of experience with no degree.
- Familiarity with ERP systems. SAP B1 experience preferred.
- Ability to interface and interact with external vendors.
- Must have the ability to work independently, be detail oriented, manage multiple priorities and have strong time management and self-management skills.
- Ability to work in a SOX environment and be able to resolve any audit queries with external auditors.
- Ability to establish internal relationships quickly and work with multiple internal organizations and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Copilot and other Microsoft Office 365 applications.

Annual compensation range: $80k-$90k negotiable plus bonus
