Process Chemist

Position Summary:
The manufacturing Process Chemist works both independently and as part of a team to assist in the development, optimization, and technology transfer of commercial manufacturing compounds.  The position involves set-up, use, and cleaning of various laboratory equipment as well as running established protocols with the guidance of chemists and senior technical staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop robust processes for the target compounds to ensure safe and reproducible processes.
  • Develop alternate synthetic routes to target molecules and modify reactants and/or equipment as required.
  • Solve complex chemical problems which may arise during process development, optimization or scale up of processes.
  • Understand the concepts of reaction kinetics, design of experiments, solubility and crystallization, mass transfer, heat transfer and process safety to ensure critical process parameters are identified.
  • Accountable for documentation to ensure the consistent manufacture of products; including batch records, production instructions, and development / qualification reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications:
  • BS or MS in Chemistry or related field required. 
  • At least 2 - 5 years’ experience in technical production, R&D, and/or new product development experience required. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpretation of technical instructions from disparate information sources, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced, dynamic and team environment.
  • Working knowledge of ISO-9001, cGMP, and/or ICH Q7 in pharma or chemical regulated environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of Process Improvement methodology (ie., Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or TOC) a plus.
  • Experience with or ability to master the use of modern research tools such as EasyMax, PolyBlock, Continuous Flow Reactors, and in-situ process monitoring a plus.
  • Strong computer skills in standard & scientific systems, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ChemDraw, Reaxys and Scifinder.

Annual compensation range: $65k-$75k negotiable plus bonus
