Position Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will assist, the Head of Corporate Operations in all aspects of risk-based health, safety and environmental programs at the New Castle, DE and Wilmington, DE facilities. The EHS Manager will be the support contact for EHS compliance and assist with managing interactions with regulatory agencies. She/he will partner with Facilities, Chemistry, Manufacturing, and other departments to provide support and coordination of overall EHS compliance and implementation of procedures and training consistent with the Company’s policies and guiding principles.

Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Uses every opportunity to drive EHS awareness by demonstrating safe behavior, continuous self-development and education in areas of environmental, health & safety compliance, industry trends and regulatory developments.
  • Lead safety orientation for new employees.
  • Coordinate the purchase, proper use, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipment.
  • Develop comprehensive EHS management systems that measure compliance, and performance as well as ensure continuous improvement.
  • Develop, disseminate, and maintain EHS standard operating procedures.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain documentation for Air Quality registrations and/or permits. Conduct inspections of exhaust and safety equipment as required.
  • Evaluate working conditions across the site to identify and mitigate potential hazards, risks, and unsafe conditions.
  • Support and participate in EHS Safety Committee activities internal to Adesis.
  • Manage, implement, and test emergency response plans and keep them current.
  • Ensure all regulatory standards relating to chemical inventory, labeling, and safety data sheets are met and kept up to date.
  • Manages regulatory recordkeeping and reporting with agencies including, but not limited to, OSHA, EPA, DNREC, DOT.
  • Assists the Head of Corporate Operations to implement and manage TSCA/PMN processes for newly developed chemical compounds.
  • Use appropriate communications and escalations to inform upper management of all EHS related events including, but not limited to injuries, illnesses, emergency incidents, including updates until root cause, corrective and preventive actions are identified and implemented.
  • Responds in timely fashion to emergency response, and other incidents and provides EHS guidance.
  • Participates in Capital Project processes to review and comment on Project Safety Plans, conducts project walk-throughs for continued Safety Plan alignment, and attends meetings to provide safety observations and discuss any potential employee health and safety concerns.
  • Maintains regulatory knowledge in applicable EPA, OSHA, DNREC, and DOT regulations.
  • Participate and provide recommendations in the development of safety capital expenditure items and annual safety budget.

Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Occupational Health & Safety major preferred; a BS in Engineering, Chemistry or Business-related discipline will be acceptable with the proper experience.
  • CSP or other certifications preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing environmental, health and safety standards.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to travel.
  • Technical expertise in occupational health and safety with a strong emphasis in chemical safety/compatibility.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • ISO 14001, ISO 17025, and OHSAS 18001 program development preferred.
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in an industrial EHS leadership role, preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Extensive walking inside of buildings and around exterior areas of the sites.
  • Climb and descend ladders and stairs.
  • Work around electrical equipment using proper safety procedures.
