Job Summary

The IT Director - Business Applications and Data is a senior member of the IT Leadership Team and is responsible for leading the strategy, implementation, and operational management of all IT-owned business systems.  This leader will have 8 direct reports across the areas of data and integration, software engineering, and SAP.  This role ensures that business-critical applications capability effectively enables business processes across the company with a focus on Corporate, R&D and Commercial functions, and that these processes deliver value that aligns with organizational objectives. Key areas of accountability include application strategy and roadmap, operations, maintenance and support, software development lifecycle (SDLC) ownership and optimization, data, analytics, and integration strategy and operations, and applications architecture and solution design.  As a member of the IT leadership team, this individual will partner with their peers and the head of IT to drive the IT strategy and overall success of the IT function. 

Key Responsibilities
Application Operations, Maintenance, and Support:
    • Ensure the quality, availability, reliability, and performance of all business applications, including ERP (SAP B1) and custom .NET and SQL applications.
    • Manage application lifecycle activities, including upgrades, patches, customizations, integrations, and decommissioning / replacement.
    • Establish robust support processes to address and resolve user issues efficiently.

Business Applications Strategy and Roadmap:
    • Develop and execute a strategic vision, roadmap and consolidation approach for enterprise applications in alignment with organizational and IT goals.
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify emerging needs and prioritize technology investments.

Software Development Process Ownership:
    • Standardize and enhance software development methodologies, ensuring continuously improving processes for high-quality deliverables and efficient workflows. 
    • Oversee internal and external development and support teams to meet project timelines and objectives.

Data, Analytics, and Integration Strategy and Governance:
    • Create and execute an enterprise data strategy, including design and tooling for integration capability, data repositories, data transformation, data visualization / reporting, and leveraging AI to deliver faster and better insights and outcomes.
    • Develop and implement data governance frameworks to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance data integration and reporting capabilities.
    • Promote a vision for and support the organization’s data-driven decision-making through reliable and accessible data solutions.

Applications Architecture and Solution Design:
    • Lead the design and implementation of scalable and secure application architectures to support business needs.  Collaborate closely with peers in IT on all solution design and RFP activity.
    • Evaluate, recommend and implement technologies, platforms, and frameworks that align with the organization’s goals.
    • Ensure standards, consistency and integration across all enterprise applications.

Leadership and Team Management:
    • Build and lead a high-performing team of IT professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
    • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members.
    • Manage budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships effectively to maximize ROI.

Risk Management and Compliance:
    • Ensure enterprise applications adhere to relevant regulatory and compliance requirements.
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with application systems, including cybersecurity threats and availability (global).

Collaboration and IT Leadership:
    • Actively participate in the IT leadership team, contributing to the development and execution of the broader IT strategy.
    • Work closely with IT peers to ensure alignment and integration of enterprise applications with information security, infrastructure design, and end-user experience initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT leadership roles, with a focus on enterprise business applications.
  • Proven expertise in application operations, software development methodologies, and data, analytics and governance.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including experience with sophisticated stakeholder management, and engaging senior executives.
  • Strong experience with Agile methodologies.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience leveraging AI/ML, specifically generative AI, is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP (SAP B1) or similar.
  • Custom .NET and SQL-based applications preferred.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based application platforms and SaaS solutions.
  • Familiarity with ITIL and DevOps practices.
  • Certifications such as PMP, CSM, or ITIL are a plus.
