Key Responsibilities
Assist a trained chemist in the purification of a number of organic targets
Use a variety of methods, including, but not limited to tradition glass column chromatography, semi-automated systems such as Interchim as well as preparatory high performance liquid chromatography
Purify compounds by recrystallization as well as distillation
Assist the chemist in isolation of the product from the reaction mixture by liquid/liquid phase separation as well as filtration
Assist the chemist in assembling the glassware for the reaction as well as helping charge the chemicals to the ration vessel
Use available analytical techniques such as NMR and LCMS to characterize the products they purify
Other duties may be assigned
Required Qualifications The student must have complete 1 year of general chemistry with lab. Ideally they would have at least 1 semester of organic chemistry with lab. The student should also have demonstrated the ability to work as part of a team during their course work.
Education/Experience:
1 year of general chemistry with lab
1 semester of organic chemistry
Language Ability: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, co-workers, and clients. Write scientific reports and synthesis procedures in order to enable other researchers. Effective presentation of information and responses to questions from managers, co-workers, and clients. Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate charges for reactions. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Ability to solve problems and analyze data without supervision Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have some knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Explorer; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel.
