Job Summary:
As a member of UDC’s Chemical Business, this position will work closely with UDC’s team in Ewing, NJ, UDC’s contract manufacturing partner (PPG), and UDC suppliers to source, develop, and manufacture UDC’s OLED products and starting materials. The position requires a solid and comprehensive strong chemistry background, particularly in the context of industrial small-molecule chemical processes, as well as knowledge in sourcing strategies, supplier management, quality control and cost optimization. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Chemistry, with significant experience in synthetic route design, process optimization, scale up validation and chemical manufacturing from the pharmaceutical or specialty chemical industries.
Responsibilities:
Work with R&D, manufacturing, quality control, and product development teams to meet UDC’s new product development and manufacturing objectives. Specifically:
- Support the sourcing of strategic raw materials, as the technical lead interfacing with supplier counterparts
- Conduct cost analyses and optimize sourcing/process development strategies to achieve performance, quality and cost targets
- Advise on synthetic routes, process optimization, and chemistry feasibility as well as technical issues related to UDC’s supply chain and manufacturing partner
- Lead multi-party analytical alignment initiatives
- Identify potential improvements for cost reduction, scalability, and sustainability
- Monitor global market trends to identify emerging suppliers, new materials, and cutting-edge technologies
- Provide technical guidance to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations throughout the supply chain and manufacturing process
- Promote collaboration and develop relationships with UDC’s multi-disciplinary network
- Provide chemistry guidance on Root Cause Investigations throughout the entire life cycle of UDC OLED products and strategic raw materials
Qualifications:
- PhD in Chemistry
- Minimum 15 years in chemical manufacturing industry (pharmaceutical or specialty) with a strong focus on synthetic chemistry, route development, process development, technology transfer and industrial-scale processes
- Proven experience in sourcing chemical materials, reagents, and intermediates for manufacturing processes desirable
- Strong understanding of process safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance in chemical manufacturing, preferably in an ISO or FDA-compliant environment
Skills:
- Strong communication and team-working skills with ability to perform and succeed in a multi-disciplinary, high paced team environment
- Excellent knowledge of synthetic chemistry, including route design, process optimization, and scale-up
- Knowledge of cost optimization strategies and risk management in a technical sourcing environment
- Demonstrated drive and proven track record of taking on challenging problems and create innovative solutions
Job Requirement:
- Based in Ewing, NJ
- Flexibility to participate in regular off-hours calls, especially with international suppliers
- Domestic and international travel required up to 10% of time
